Don't understand instructions

I bought a diy crochet kit and I’m already stuck in the very beginning. Could someone explain what it means?

For example, let’s take the bill of the pinguin, these are the instructions

Now I think I understand how to make a slip knot and also a chain. But what does chain 6 means.
Also what does it mean to work in the round.

Also in the part about round 1 I have no idea what it means… I know it is probably a lot to explain but ill really appreciate if someone could help me with this (:slight_smile:

Welcome!
You need help from the crochet gurus, @OffJumpsJack @okckwilter and @WhampusKitty
Let’s see what their advice is.

@salmonmac thanks

Oh boy, this is going to be hard to explain. I did some hunting for an explanatory picture and this is the closest I can come. See how the middle of the tummy spirals out? That’s where your chain 6 starts. Start with a slip knot and chain 6 stitches. Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 4 sc in each of the next 4 chains, work 3 sc in the last ch. Those 3 sc will “turn the corner” and you’ll now be working on the other side of your starting chain. Work 3 sc in each of the next 3 ch and you should be back where you started. Join by slip stitching in the starting chain. You should have a total of 10 sc.

I also found a blog at planetjune.com that has some very helpful videos and tutorials for beginners.

That penguin is too cute! Good luck and let us know how it goes for you!
