Doll cradle bag

I wish I knew how to adapt patterns, I found a super cute doll cradle that turns into a bag, but there are short rows and seaming etc. I looked for other patterns, but didn’t find another one that was knit. Anyway, I can do short rows but the rest just seems fussy and while I would like to make a few, I don’t have the patience to do stuff that has a bunch of wrap and turns and seaming. Then it has icord edging and truthfully, I am a little scared of that… why isn’t there a pattern that is done in the round and just isn’t fussy???

Toys and items like this cradle/purse almost always have lots of shaping of small parts. They are some of the most attractive but difficult items to work.
They take time and yes, patience but the results are worth the effort. Along the way you may need to learn new techniques and you may find that some like i-cord edging aren’t as difficult as you might think.

Here’s one that’s worked in the round but chances are there are still going to be small sections that need to be worked and seamed. If you decide to try it, just take it a small section at a time and see how it goes. We’re ready to back you up anytime!

When I take on a daunting, intimidating project I do what salmonmac said, take it one piece at a time. If you have a preferred short row method you likely can substitute it. If possible I routinely change w&t to German short rows for the sole reason that I find them less fiddly to work but sometimes the conversion isn’t suitable. That said I have a bag somewhere with ‘bits of bunny’ from a Dot Pebbles pattern that never got assembled. I think I will start the project again, from scratch, with some modifications to make it work better for me. Point being that we learn a lot taking on daunting, intimidating projects and there’s no shame in not finishing everything, every time. Sometimes the learning can be the result that matters. Should you decide to take on a doll cradle bag I’ll be cheering for you!

Gosh my son would have adored a doll basket when he was younger (and maybe even now!), his baby doll was generally put to sleep in a shopping basket which doubled as baby crib and carry basket. I hope you make it just so i can cheer you on. It’s a truly fab idea.

The ones I have made are crocheted and pretty simple. It’s basically a rectangle in the round (a wide tube) with an eyelet round for the drawstring and some frill for the top. Are you wanting to knit or crochet it?

I am a knitter- I have tried learning crochet, but that is just beyond me!

Most people find knitting more difficult!

Maybe you can figure out a pattern from this picture. I think the top is double the number of stitches of the bottom.
