Do patterns include the gauge in yarn quanity?

I am getting ready to start a new project using the berry stitch and I have never gauged before. I want to gauge this time, because I have never tried the berry st either. If I make my gauge, do I frog it when I complete it to use the yarn for project? Or do patterns generally include the gauge yardage as a part of the overall yarnage used in the project?

I’m curious about this as well. I usually buy an extra ball/skein of yarn for my project so I can swatch with confidence. If the yarn were to be way too expensive to buy an extra one, I’d frog the swatch and reuse in the project if I could.

You can reuse the swatch yarn, or just leave it till the end so you can compare and use it if you need to. It’s advised to wash and/or block your swatch to see how the yarn behaves after, and sometimes that can help you get gauge if you’re off. But you can still re-use that yarn if you need it.
