Do I keep going or do I start a new?

So I’m still on the new born booties pattern that has two parts that is hard to tell if I have to start a new piece or continue with what I have.

On this pattern it has two sections that look to be separated. First section has the cast on amount and so forth and 11 garter stitches at the end of the first section, then it has a gap before the next section is listed out. The next section starts with “Shape the toe: 1st row”. Does that mean I am continuing on the same piece or do I need to start a new. The second section has no call out for cast on stitches at the beginning of it. Currently I have 39 stitches after the 11 garter stitches. Please help.

The good news is that you don’t have to cast on new sts or restart the pattern. You’ve worked 11rows in garter stitch (knit every row). The Shape toe directions continue with those same sts (now increased to 39sts because of the yfwd increases that you’ve already worked).

You’re going to be working some short rows in this section as you shape the toe. The short rows mean that you will be turning before the end of the row. There will be sts remaining unworked on the left hand needle. That’s ok, you’ll get to them later.

Wonderful. Thank you so much!

This is a nice pattern for booties that will stay on baby’s feet. Good choice! If more questions come up, please come back and ask.
