Do DPN have to be used when called for

I want to make the kitty pi bed and I discovered I dont have DPN, shocking as that was to me. I wanted to know if I had to use them or was their another way around it?

You can knit small diameter in the round using two circs or the magic loop method.

I hardly every use dpns anymore–love the two circ method.
