DIY Success: Painted Cabinet Looks Like Wood! :o)

:woot:I must share this, I’m still amazed at how great it looks, even though I did it myself!

My mom hated our old yellow cabinets in the bathroom which is now hers. So did I! We did a paint job in a pink-ish brown called ‘Pueblo Brown (2102-30)/N333’ from Benjamin Moore with an overlay of Mahogany gel stain applied in the direction of the wood grain with a chip brush.

Beautiful.Great job:cheering:

Loves it…I really appreciate this, since I loove restoring stuff…

Wow, that’s beautiful!

Looks wonderful, great job!

Wow!!! you did a great job

I’m impressed! I’d like to do this to our front door - paint it to look like wood.

wow! that is freakin’ fantastic! what a great job! wish I had that kind of talent/skill!!!

Thanks, it was really nothing, paint the door first. When it’s dry do the gel in the chip brush. But it MUST be GEL stain. I saw someone do it on TV, only the paint was much darker and you really couldn’t see how great it looks. You have to have the right undercoat for a color, I simply lucked out.

Go for it Ronda! Worst that could happen is you don’t like it and you repaint. :teehee:

It looks great! :yay: :yay:

Wow - very impressive! I have a couple of pieces I was thinking of refinishing…this might be an easier way to go!! Thanks for the post

Just give them a good paint job (I like the sponge rollers best), and when it comes time to put gel stain on, just make sure your final stroke is in the direction of the wood. When it comes to moulding (as I have around each door), the vertical ones go up and down, and the horizontals side to side. There’s no trick, the CHIP BRUSH does it all for you. It’s not a flat brush, so the unevenness of bristles is what gives you that authentic look instead of the painted look.

Good luck. Show us yours when you’re finished! ;o)
