Good afternoon! I am thinking about knitting a few dishcloths to give as gifts to my DDs’ Sunday School teachers, but am unsure what to do. How many should I give each teacher? I was thinking three? Also have seen mention of a bar of nice soap added in, but is that for face cloths or dishcloths? It seems like that would be for face cloths. Any thoughts on how to make a dishcloth (or three) seem more “substantial”??? TIA!
I always do a dishtowel and put 2 dishcloths with it. The dishtower topper I use is the one on the Lionbrand pattern site. Sometimes I put a potscrubber with them, not sure where I found that pattern… possible patterncentral. Hope this helps! Mary
I think you can make the same pattern and spin it either way - either as a face cloth or a dish cloth.
For face - include either a bar of soap or a bottle of liquid body wash. For dish - include a potscrubber or a small bottle of dish soap.
I think just 1 is sufficient for a teacher gift. Present it in a small basket or even a small gift bag.
For my SIL I’m making severl face cloths, a head band, bar and liquid soap (I also made a soap sack thing), lip gloss, and a few other things tossed in, too.
I have given dishcloths as gifts before and I have done the bar of soap thing, but also I’ve done up a little basket with a dishcloth of two and something kitchen-ish like dip mix or bread dipper and a little dish. Just be creative. When it’s for people that aren’t family, I think they appreciate anything you give them and creativity counts.
TY all so much! I tried making a hanging towel, but it looked awful, LOL! I will try just the topper at the Lion site and see how that goes.
Funny story: tonight my 3yo DD saw her Sunday School teacher and informed her that, “Mama is making you a dishcloth for Christmas. Then you can clean all of those dirty dishes!” ROTFLOL!!!
I don’t know if you have one of these stores near you, but for dish towels I often add a little bottle of the hand sanitizing soap from Bath and Body works. you can get 4 for $10 usually on sale. add a pretty ribbon, and voila- instant gift!
What comes out of the mouths of babes! Both of my kids will blab if I don’t tell them to NOT say anything to so-and-so… but it’s still an effort for them to keep quiet.

I find most dishcloth patterns are small - I like a biggish one, esp for a face cloth. Also, if making facecloths, try to get a slightly nicer yarn, maybe one with bit of linen or hemp in it. Add a bar of handmade soap, place on a scallop shell and wrap in cello.
