Dishcloth HELP!

I have just finished making a dishcloth using thispattern. My question is this…

By the time I finished it, it was drooping very bad. Like the weight of it has pulled it down. I am going to block it, so I am hoping that helps. But I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on preventing this problem?

And one other thing… should I weave in the end before or after blocking?

Thanks so much.

They do tend to droop when you first finish them. I just toss them in the washer and dryer. It always seems to work fine. I wouldn’t bother blocking it. It is after all just a dishcloth.

The only reason that I was planning on blocking it is b/c it is a gift to someone.

You can block it if you want to of course and it will look nice for the gift giving.

Blocking may help reshape it but if cotton, worked on somewhat large ndls, the weight of the yarn and the sz of the piece will cause it to be droopy. As Jan said, a trip thru the washer/dryer might tighten it up. I like how my SnC dishcloths shrink and stiffen when fresh out of the dryer.

The one I made is with Peaches and Cream and I did it on 10 1/2. I will try washing it and see what happens.

Thanks

SnC and PnC are basically the same thing.

FWIW, here is pic of one of my dishcloths, essentially the same patt, but worked on sz 5 ndls (I like really dense fabric…plus, when thicker, I also use them as potholders). This is right out of the dryer and you can see that it still has a bit of droop.

I always work my dish/wash cloths on size 6 needles. I like the fabric denser too. But hey, it’s your first completed dishcloth!! You finished it! I’m sure it’s beautiful and there are times when you need a cloth a little lighter too.

I like the feel of the dense ones, but they don’t dry well when you’re using them so I usually use a US 7 or 8 needle so the weave is slightly looser, but not lacy.
