divided my stitches evenly on 2 circ needles, need to know to decrease in the round…
What are you making? Decreases in the round are worked just the same as when knitting flat. What specifically are you have trouble with?
decreasing top of hat, someone told me to use 2 circulars, different colors, but u work off one needle at a time, when working on one u drop the other, did it once before but forgot at a time…going to knitting group tomorrow will find out,
Even though the hat is on 2 circulars, think of it as one piece and place the decreases where they should be around the hat, as your pattern directs. For example, knit together every 9th and 10th stitch around. If the sts to be knit together happen to be on two separate needles, move one of the sts to the other needle and k2tog. Here’s a video that may help with using the two needles. Using 2 color needles is a very helpful idea.
I like to use the longest circular I can for hats. Mine is 32 inches, but it’s because that’s what came with my interchangeable set. Eventually I want to go up to a 40 inch. I knit hats with one circular needle using a single loop, also known as a traveling loop. There’s info on this if you google it. Liat M. Gat at Knit Freedom also has a video out on it. When I’m finished with the main tube part of the hat, I switch to magic loop and do the decreases. The commercial pattern sites that want you to buy too small 16 inch circulars and a set of double points for the top only want to sell you more needles, in my opinion. Sixteen inchers in every size, plus double points quickly adds up. Then you have to have some way of storing and sorting them. They don’t have sizes imprinted on them. So you see where this is going money wise. Love Lion brand’s lists of things needed for their projects!
Thanks for this, so very much. I want to make hats, etc, and I only have size 1, 3, and 8 DPN’s. I’m building my needle collection very slowly, lol
If you can you should look at saving up for a set of interchangeables. They’ll save you so much in the long run. There are a few occasions when I wish I had more DPNs because they can be handy for reknitting a section of stitches rather than frogging the whole thing but to not have to have them is wonderful.
I’m asking for a set of interchangeables for either mothers day or my birthday. Grumpy Bear’s mom will pitch in for them if I ask nicely. I’m deciding now if I want the cubic Nova’s, regular Nova’s, or the Dreamz.
