Hi,
I am knitting a top-down cardigan with a crew neck–my question is, how do you decrease evenly across a row (I’m at the neck opening)? I have 80 stitches and need to decrease 10 stitches. I need both sides of the neck opening to balance evenly.

Decrease evenly really means to spread your decreases across the row and don’t clump them in one place. The decreases don’t have to be exactly space but in your case, the decreases could be done like this:
k3, k2tog, (k6, k2tog) 9 times, k3
Thank you for your quick response–this worked out and I was able to knit the neckband. How did you come up with this in case I come across this again?

Well, honestly I just pushed the numbers around a bit. There’s more than one way to do this but if you divide the total number of sts by the number to decrease (80/10) and then figure that the 10th set of 8 sts should be divided on the front edges of the cardigan so that they look even (5 on one side, 3 on the other), that’s it.
5/8/8/8/8/8/8/8/8/8/3 or with the decreases
k3 k2tog (k6,k2tog) 9 times, k3.
