Decreasing evenly

Hi all. It’s been a while since I visited the site. I am inquiring how to decrease 221 stitches -> 200 stitches evenly. I keep trying to figure it out but as usual, I’m overthinking it.

Hi Dee!

I just use this knitting calculator as my brain calculator is incapable of stuff like this!

Hope it helps!

Thank you. :pray:t2: I’ll try it and let you know. I am math challenged!

Same here!

So if I K5 (K2tog, K8) 5x
(K2tog, k9) 10x
(K2tog, K8) 5x
K2tog, K4
That will leave me with 200 Stitches according to knitting calculator??? It doesn’t seem right.

That seems right to me but more experienced knitters can confirm (paging @salmonmac @creations)

You’re doing 21 k2togs in the above arrangement so you’ll go from 221 to 200.

That’s it exactly. Count up the decreases and you’ll see it works out.
5 k2tog+10 k2tog+5 k2tog +1 k2tog=21 decreases

Yep, looks good.
Maybe it seems wrong to you because the decreases aren’t exactly the same distance apart, but it is even with the first and last decrease of the row or round being closer to the beg/end of the row/round which results in those two decreases also having an even distance apart once they ‘join’ at a BOR marker or at a seam.
The k9s and the k8s are also even and symentrical.

Understood, but the repetitions 5x, 10x, 5x seems excessive…… maybe I’m just overthinking this.
Thanks for all of you input and support. :slightly_smiling_face:

Put in a lifeline and give it a try. Seeing this work out on the needles is the best demonstration.

I’m looking to check out the Cascade yarn pattern, Oversized Vest with Asymmetrical Front for the lower rib. It states: Row 1 (WS): k1 *, P1, P1; rep from *

Row 2: (RS): P1, *, K1, P1; rep from *

Is this correct? Does this make a normal ribbing?

Looks like you’ve picked up an error in the pattern. It seems to be convetional k1,p1 rib from the photos. It should be
Row 1 (WS): k1 *, P1, K1; rep from *

Row 2: (RS): P1, * , K1, P1; rep from*
as you suspected.

It does appear to be incorrect, but as I look at the photo it is not the conventional ribbing. What do you think???

If you look ahead to the instructions for the button bands, it says:
Next row (WS): K1, * P1, K1; rep from *.
Next row (RS): P1, * K1, P1; rep from *.

So it’s straightforward 1x1 ribbing.

Nice pattern! Saving it for myself!
