Decreasing alternate rows?

Hello. I am working on the back of my first cardigan. I am at the point of shaping for armholes. The pattern says to decrease one stitch at the end of each alt. row until I get down to a certain number of stitches. What exactly does this mean? Shouldn’t I dec a stitch at the end of EACH row? I hope I’ve given enough info to get some advice. Thanks!

If it says to decrease at the end of every other row, that’s what you should do. If you decrease at the end of each row, you will get to your desired number of stitches before you get the length you need and the angle of the decreases will be too great.
