Decrease 2 stitches evenly across the row

Hi All

I’ve been knitting on and off for a few years but nothing in the last year and all my previous knits were on circular needles this pattern is regular needles

Im just whipping up a little beany hat but it’s been so long since Iast I last knitted I’m a little stumped.

Pattern says to purl to the end decrease 2 stitches evenly across the row.

Firstly why kind of decrease do I use? SSK or K2tog? Remembering it’s a purl row.

Secondly where in the row do I decrease those 2 stitches?

Many thanks in advance!

For the decrease technique, I would purl 2 together through the back loop. For the 2 stitch decrease, I would count my total stitches and divide by 2 and that is the place where I’d make my second decrease, in the middle of the row. I’d make the first decrease one stitch in. In other words, p1, p2 tog tbl, purl to second decrease (in the middle of the row), purl 2 tog tbl, purl to end.

The decrease the Erzabet recommends very nicely places the decreases about halfway apart.
I’m wondering if the next row starts the decreases for the crown or is at the end of ribbing and beginning of the body of the beanie?
What is the name of your pattern?

Yes I’m thinking that spacing would be quite good.
Yes you are correct, the decreasing to shape the crown starts on the next row.

The pattern I am doing is " hats in sirdar snugly dk 1711"

I’ve knitted it at least 3 times before but probably about 3 years ago when I was a novice and I’ve totally forgotten again!

Thanks so much!

Thank you! I think you are probably right, I’m having a mind blank it’s been almost a year since I last picked up my needles and I. I’m a little rusty on pattern reading.
