ok so now that i figured out that it wants me to increase…easy enough but on a chart it doesn`t show every stitch. So what I am wondering is:
l-l-m l-l-l-l-m l-l-
l-knit -purl m-increase
So here are my questions- is this a repeat pattern? or does it mean to only increase 2 stitches?
Oh and it is a cast on of 128.
Thanks for the help!
If you are working from a chart to make a hat and the chart shows
-l-m l-l-l-l-m l-l- it would most likely mean to repeat that over the whole row or round. But… there may be a line on your chart that indicates where the repeat is that is different from that. If not, that would be the repeat and I think it looks like it be the repeat. Because if you follow that set of instructions and work across left to right and then go back to the beginning and repeat that, you would be starting K, K, M1 and ending with its mirror image (M1, K, K)at the end of the row/rnd) and that over the rest of the row you would always be doing K4, M1.
So I’d say, yes, they want you to make 2 over the 8 stitches all the way across the 128. 8 goes into 128 16 times so you would be increasing 32 stitches over that row/rnd. Does that make sense for the shape you are going for?
I hope it does! it is a cabled hat… So i guess those are increases for the cables… Thanks…I would have posted the pattern but i don`t remember where I got it from…
So i guess those are increases for the cables…
That could be. Cables cause the work to pull in a bit and adding a stitch at each cable could be done in an effort to keep the size what it was. Or if you just did the ribbing and are getting ready to do the cables, yes, they could want to add a stitch at each cable to make the size they have in mind.
