Deciding how many stitches for an afghan

I’d like to make an afghan using this stitch, basketweave:

Multiple of 10

Row 1: Knit
Rows 2, 4 & 6: K6, P4
Rows 3 & 5: K4, P6
Row 7: Knit
Rows 8, 10 & 12: P4, K6
Rows 9 & 11: P6, K4

Repeat Rows 1-12.

Very simple, and it looks nice as an afghan, my grandma made me one. But I’m not sure how many stitches to cast on. Multiples of 10 it says so I can just cast on say, 200 and it will work? Does that sound like enough? Thank you for any help!

It depends what your stitch gauge is and how wide you want it. If you’re getting 4sts/in, 200 sts works out to about 50".

I just love the way basketweave looks!

Thank you!

I want it to be like a snuggle blanket or a throw for the couch so I think that would be great!
