Debbie Bliss Teddy Beaar Jacket

Ok, here I go again. finished back, figured out first part of Right Side. Have 67 stitches which is correct. Continue pattern as set until 85th row at the same time shape cast off 5 sts on 55th R of and beg of foll 6 R side Rows.
R 55 (5), Row 61 (5) equals (10) from 67 leaves 57 st.
Pattern states SB 56 Sts. WOW! what am I missing…math class??

It sounds like it should be a cast off of 5sts then a decrease of one stitch at the beginning of each of the following 6 RS rows.
So that’s -5 and -6 or -11sts. 67-11=56sts.
Is this shaping the neckline on the right front (right as you would wear the sweater)?
This pattern has so many errors that you start to doubt everything.
Good going to make it this far. Keep good notes for the left front.

There is some discussion on Ravelry that may help with other parts of the sweater.

I like your written out rows and notes. It’s a good way to make sense of the instructions.

Thanks…not the neatest but sure helps…especially with the fronts…love your responses!

Thanks for the idea. Ij ust went ahead and did 1 more row+11 (5+ 1eaX6)

Shape Neck:

Now on the final 78-86 on r front. I have 56 stitches. Pattern 13 and save on holder. Leaves 43. Then states: (Cont. in pattern and dec 1 st at end of next row and cast off 2 st at beg of foll row 4 times.
Again my old school math is 43 minus 9 equals 34. Pattern states should be 31. Then patt 7 more rows and cast off.

I think Debbie Bliss must be sipping gin when writing her patterns! OR>…maybe I should start while knitting them…

Thanks for your input…I have read all notes thru knittinghelp.com and believe everyone might agree
Enjoy your day…
Virginia (a once accomplished knitter??)

Having read previous posts on this pattern you can see that you share the frustration of just about everyone who has attempted the pattern. I’m not sure it was every edited or test knit.
Fiddling around with the math I wonder if the pattern is meant to read:
Cont. in pattern and (dec 1 st at end of next row and cast off 2 st at beg of foll row) 4 times.
That would be 3X4=12. 43-12=31
Is this the bind off at a front shoulder? Does 31 or 34sts match up with the stitch count on the back shoulder? They will have to be seemed together eventually and should match.

If you weren’t an accomplished knitter before this pattern you qualify now for sure!

I think you are on to something. It is the “Shape Neck” part of right front. I can’t see where it makes much difference so…I will use your idea makes total sense…Thank you both for the input and help

But that would be 9.
4x2+1=9 right?

Virginia

I’m thinking 1stitch then 2sts then repeat 4 times total. So 3sts repeated 4 times for 12sts. Since this is a child’s cardigan I’m not sure the shaping has to be so exact. The only thing in favor is that the math works. It could equally well be that the 31sts is a mistake in the pattern.
@cspierer do you have any advice?

Ok 1 more time and I will.leave you all alone.
I just read the Shap top for back.
It states cast off 3 st at beg of next 4 rows to equal 12! That would actually match to sides.

Aha yes, the brackets on the Shape Neck make it a [cast off of one stitch then 2sts] repeat (repeated 4 times total).

That’s great. You get a gold star for getting this far! We have no quota for questions or follow-ups so ask away. For this pattern in particular there are infinite follow-ups plus one.

Exactly - 12 stitches decreased - I am trying to include some photos of my notes but for some reason it’s not letting me. Virginia, it sounds like you have the right neck decreased figured out. Excellent job!!!

I’m not sure if I am repeating my reply, but my right front neck shaping ended with 31 stitches. I did it just as you said to decrease 12 stitches.

First row (my row 87) of decrease - dec 1
Next row (my row #88) - cast off 2
row 89 - dec 1
Row 90 - cast off 2
Row 91 - dec 1
Row 92 - cast off 2
Row 93 - dec 1
Row 94 - co 2

Total 12 stitches

I am hyperventilating just looking at my notes!!! Ha!

My “trial by fire” notes!!! Good luck, Virginia. It truly is this pattern!! Good for you to persevere!

I really don’t. Would love to see your chart. If I start the decrease it cuts into Chart2 and in looking at a photo someone took of r side they have a partial diamond going. I am really getting irritated that I just can’t get it right.! Even on Row 82 I only have 6 sts left on side?? Grrrr.

Virginia

Wow! I started decreasing on row79! No wonder. So you kept the pattern going without any decrease until row87?
How am I missing that in instructions?

That makes perfect sense. How did u figure it out? How did i miss reading it that way?
I stated decrease on r 79!

BUT I Looked at a completed one of the r front and it looks like the last 7 rows are without decrease. I attached that pic. And the attached where I’m at.
I really really appreciate your help! I’m supposed to be packing RV to leave Sunday for Oregon coast until end of Oct and I’m not budging til I get the part done.

Well…I will explain just how blind I have become with this pattern.i cannot beleive my eyes! After reading and rereading etc a hundred times. I just realized I am using 78th row instead of large size I am knitting, I should be using 85th row…I absolutely feel like an idiot!! I’m really a decent knitter and really know how to read!!
Thank u all for your patience and help! I will finish front today!!
