Have you seen this? I picked up a copy at JoAnn’s yesterday while fabric shopping.
It’s new, looks like a quarterly, and I may subscribe. Trying to narrow my magazines down to one for each craft, and this has fantastic patterns with easy to understand directions.
A ‘Simply Knitting’ showed up in my mail box, rather unexpectedly a week or so ago. Last night, I did a side by side of the two and if I had to choose just one, it’d be the Debbie Bliss. I love Vogue Knitting, also, but those styles and patterns are way out of my league.
I want to make a blanket with letters on it for my DGD, she already has wooden letters hanging in her room. Thinking sage green and dusty rose, or whatever that new brown is called and a green apple yarn.
Well maybe her pattern writting skills have improved…
(but i think of EZ and Maggie Reghetti as i look at the photo…
Bliss is famous for photo’s of people scrunched in to some contorted shape (or here twisted into half lying down)
Why? cause her sweaters/patterns don’t quite fit…
Knitters struggle to follow the directions, (no schematic drawing to help) and then try to sew up the lumpy shapes they have tried to block to shape, and find they have a sweater that only looks good when you lounge, half twisted, on a couch! (which is why it was photgraphed that way to begin with.)
Not a big fan of bliss, not her designs, NOT HER DIRECTIONS!, not her yarn (and there is a now a law suit started) or the finished results.
it’s yarn porn… Looks lovely, (and so do playboy models to men) but the result is divorced from reality.
Bliss designs nice stuff for kids (and photographs them in the plainest way) --they are all to big, (sure kids grow, but when there is 8 inches of ease… no kid is going to grow 8 inches!) but they do work… (in a way)
I have a number of her baby books and must admit to having a bit of trouble with her patterns. I am usually able to figure them out but I don’t think she has the easiest writing style, she seems to “assume” alot. I’ve never tried an adult pattern.
I have one of her books (the one the baby shawl blanket I finished not too long ago was in) but haven’t tried anything fitted- so am not sure about that part. The blanket instructions were crystal clear- no problems there.
