Okay, so I try to find the best deals around and I have this cute baby layette I want to make, but it takes 5 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino. Everywhere I look they are $7-8 a skein. I know that is not terribly expensive, but I am looking to cut corners.
Does anyone know of a similar yarn for less money?
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino IS expensive. It’s beautifully soft, but I agree that it’s a lot to pay for a baby outfit.
Most of the baby yarns out there are very soft. I don’t have a particular brand to recommend, though I’ve used Plymouth Encore DK for baby stuff and it’s soft and washable. Not as soft as cashmerino, but not much is. Many of the other baby yarns are probably softer than the Encore, and I sure somebody with more baby knitting experience will chime in.
Someone told me that they purchase a wonderful substitute for the cashmerino at their local AC Moore art and crafts supply store. It has the same amount of merino wool but the difference is in the cashmere. DB has 15% cashmere and this brand has 6% but it feels the same and its much cheaper. I am sorry that I cant remember the name of the brand she told me but there is a cheaper substitute for everything out there! Good luck.
