Death Valley beanie pattern help

On Row 10, the instructions say “Remove marker, sl first stitch (at beginning of 1st chart repeat only). Replace marker. “
Did that.
Then: “Work chart to last stitch, remove marker, sl stitch to left needle, k2tog, replace marker. On last chart repeat, knit last 2 stitches together.”

So after doing that last stitch, which is a k2tog, I have one stitch left. Usually, patterns will tell you stitch for stitch what to do. But here, if I do the last k2tog, I can’t just remove the marker without slipping another stitch first. So im not sure if I slip that stitch, then remove the marker, slip it back to the left needle, k2tog and then replace the marker? That’s what I’m inclined to do. So the instructions should read “Work chart to last stitch, slip one stitch to right needle, remove marker, sl stitch to left needle, k2tog, replace marker”. Right?

But then the instructions also say to “knit last two stitches together” on last chart repeat. Do I do another k2tog and then place the marker?

Hoping someone can clarify or tell me what they did.

Maybe this one?

The pattern isn’t taking you through every step but you’ve interpreted the way to work the last k2tog correctly. If your marker isn’t one that opens (and even if it is) slipping the stitch right, remove marker then slip left is the way to work this.
Are there several markers for this hat in addition to the beginning of round marker? If the pattern has you “knit last two stitches together” on the last chart repeat then k2tog, slip marker and continue on.

This is from a fabulous book on the national parks. It’s a joy to look at and fun to knit. That said there is also a link to errata.
