Dark Sky Shawl crochet help

Hello all and Happy New Year. I’ve just tried to have a go at this lovely shawl. Can I just check with you gurus. Rows 2, 3 and 4 require skipped stitches after the initial ch4, before and after the shell gubbins. But on row 5 it doesn’t mention the skipped stitches. That seems funny to me. Is it a typo do you think?

It’s a bit inconsistent, but even though it doesn’t mention skipping the treble, the next thing is “3dc in first dc”, so you skip the treble because it isn’t a dc.

Thank you, the skip 2dc before and after the shell is missing on row 5 and onward. Weird

I’m pretty sure the first 4 rows were set-up rows, then you just work Row 5 over and over until you’re ready for the border. You don’t skip any stitches (except the trebles). I’m guessing the trebles at both ends keep the edges from being too tight.

After the first 4 row, you work all the stitches up to the last dc on the side, 2 dc in the last stitch, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the chain-2 space from the previous shell. There’s a good pic from a project on Ravelry. If you zoom in, you can see that all the rows are the same.

Thank you, that makes sense. I’m new to crochet so will have a go.

It’s not great pattern writing. It makes a few assumptions which a newbie wouldn’t know. It’s not wrong, just a bit unclear. You’ve got this! It’ll just be the same thing over and over until the border.
