Dang it all anyway

I just finished my second sleeve for my Skacel sweater. I went and grabbed the sleeve I did back in late November and compared the two… the one I just finished is at least four inches longer than the older one. :?? I used the same needles and all that, but I guess my tension was tighter then. The pattern says that the sleeves should be about 28 inches, and the November sleeve is about 29… close enough since it’s supposed to be a rolled cuff, but the new one is well over 32 inches.

I don’t know what to do now. :verysad:

Can you just take out a few rows at the cuff end?

In order to make them the same, I will need to completely frog one or the other. The way the pattern is written, you are doing instructions mainly by rows, not by inches. If I take it apart {from one end or the other}, the shaping of the sleeve will be off. Basically the sleeve starts off with a gradual decrease in stitches and then an even more gradual increase in stitches before starting the raglan sleeve section. Each increase or decrease is at a 10 row interval, and since the work is so big and bulky, a difference for more than one or two rows would be obvious.

I’m just trying to avoid frogging here… but I know it’s inevitable.

Oh dear. I’m sorry. Maybe some of the more experienced knitters have a fix for you?

Nope, you’ll have to sacrifice one, most likely the older one. This is why I knit two sleeves at once, always, so I know that they’ll be the same length.

Sorry!

I know I have to sacrifice one. :crying: Normally I would have done the two sleeves together, or at least knitted them one after the other, but that wasn’t possible this time around. I knew I wouldn’t be able to go full steam on this sweater until after New Year’s, but I had to check on my tension and if I had purchased enough yarn since I’m subbing. What sucks is that the older sleeve is closer to what the pattern calls for, but I’m obviously knitting looser now for some reason. I don’t want to play around with needles and such again, so I’m gonna have to frog. :frog: Besides, I want the sweater to be larger anyway. The longer sleeve, unrolled, reaches in between my knuckles of my hand and the first knuckles of my fingers, so that’s about right for a slouchy sweater with a rolled hem. I just need to decide whether to frog the sleeve first, or knit the back. I’m allowing myself another 10 days to finish this, since I want this project out of the way before starting my KO project. :verysad:

Do you knit two at the same time on two circs like some people do with socks?

I bet she will now

No, I meant when I knit them flat. The only sleeves I’ve done in the round have been attached to the sweater and worked down.
