Hello All!
I am a new member and love this site. It’s the best knitting forum I’ve found. I enjoy all the posts I’ve read, and look forward to being a part of this terrific community! Many thanks, Amy!
Here’s my question. I recently bought one of those fantastic Dale of Norway sweater pattern books, and am planning on making my first Norwegian sweater (I have made an Aran, a “plain”, and a saddle-shoulder sweater so far – no steeks! . . . yet . . . ). The Dalegarn yarn, while beautiful (I have the color cards for Heilo, Falk, Hauk, and Daletta) are kind of pricey. I came across the Knitpicks “Telemark” line (I do like the knitpicks company – they are the ones that pointed me to this site!), but I wonder how it compares to the Dale product, in quality, durability, pilling, etc.
Any thoughts from anybody?
Thanks in advance!
Welcome to the boards! Great, another guy who knits! It’s a soft yarn, and it doesn’t pill (that I know of, mine hasn’t.) It’s a good yarn for some of the Dales I’ve knitted.
Thanks for the response, CondiKnitter! I know you’re a fan of KnitPicks from taking a look at your posts, and I can’t say I blame you. I actually look for reasons to buy their yarns. To date, I’ve only bought a couple of skeins of their Merino, and their “Shimmer” in turquoise for the Candle Flame Shawl, which I’m currently making for my sister.
I have color cards for both the Dale and Telemark, and to my eye, there doesn’t seem a huge difference. I had just noticed posts regarding KnitPicks yarns on this site which mentioned pilling. They had specifically mentioned “Wool of the Andes.” I was glad to see you listed that as one of, if not your favorite, yarn. I would love to have a reason to buy some! I’m just trying to do my “due diligence” before plunging in.
Yes, Wool of the Andes is just about my favorite yarn. It is a fairly soft yarn, though there are softer. It has great stitch definition, and mine hasn’t pilled at all.
