So… How do I go about this? I want to cut up a sweater down the middle, but instead of turning it into a cardigan i want to reconnect it (I only want to take away some width). What would the best steeking technique be for this? Do i simply reconnect them with a mattress stitch ? Can I even do that after steeking? It would be my first time, and while I’ve watched a couple of videos about it I wanted to be sure about what I was doing beforehand. Its a wool sweater, thicker yarn, if that makes any difference.
the upper part of the sweater is not connected down the middle - dont ask why, a lot of improvisation was involved - and so i wanted to cut down the whole part and sew it together for a nicer finish than just trying to connect the upper part somehow. I probably should have just continued knitting with that “cut” so that its already separated, but whats done is done. I really dont want to redo the whole lower part because of it.
The first photo is what the sweater looked like before, so you can see what the “slit” looked like. The second two photos are what the sweater looks like now, I connected it so I can try it on properly and see how it fits (thats why included the first photo). I put the needle on the “added” stitches. Obviously, it turned out really wonky, hence me trying to find a different solution.
