Curved edge blues!

hi all

I am knitting an asymetrical sleevless vest, from a scrawled pattern on the back of a paper bag out of a friends book… I started by casting on 11 stitches, then increased 1 each end of every row till there were 85, then 1 each end of every alternate row till there are 159. The edge is looking very curved, i am doing the knit in front and back increase and am doing it on the 2nd in and third last (ie knit, knit and increase than knit till last three, increase, knit, knit. Any ideas whiy this in happening, I’m trying to stretch the edge as I go, I’m up to 103 stitches and if I need to frog I wanna do it now!! The yarn is only 20% woll so will I be able to block it???

AAARGH

Do you mean it’s forming a curve, that the bottom edge is looking like the edge of a circle, or do you mean that it is curling up on itself?

it’s looking like a circle, I’ve had a look at a photo from the pattern book and it does look a little rounded, but the diagram looks more angular, maybe I’m doing the wrong type of increase? I’ll try and attach the picure, but take inot account I don’t expect it’;ll look like this on me!!

this is the picture…

Does the piece you’re knitting begin from the bottom of that over-hanging thing in the back? If so, then that does look like a heck of a lot more than 11 stitches in the cast on. Could it be that that is a different section of the sweater? The directions just don’t make sense from what I can see in the photo. What is the book you got it from? Does it have a schematic, meaning, a drawing of the finished pieces before they are sewn together?

I just looked it up on-line and found a bit of a larger photo-- unless your cast-on starting point is where the left front is hidden inside the right front half, then it doesn’t make sense to me-- I can’t figure out the starting point. There just isn’t any angle which looks like a cast on of only 11 stitches. Unless perhaps the neck, if that large collar is attached afterwards?. . .

Wait a minute-- that wasn’t supposed to be 111, was it? Is it possible that you left off a digit?

you start on the front, the bit that is hidden, and it’s all in one piece, you just cast off and then on again for the arms, it’s in an australian patons Zhivago book, I’ve kept on with it and I think it’ll look ok, it’s a good non thinking knit! Thanks for your help all!!
