Yep. Things can be other than expected and sometimes the wrong (purl) side is the right side. That makes my head spin! Just about the time I thought I was getting things figured out something like this popped into my focus. I wondered about it this time because I didn’t know what would follow and thought a look-see might be helpful. Did you look at the project photos? If you think the knit side should be inside then I’d bet good money on it being so.
From the ravelry description:
This pattern for a very realistic crocodile has 6 separate pieces, with the body pieces reverse sides out
As GG has already said, the right side is the purl side, for the body. On the legs it will be the knit side, making 2 different textures in the project.
Ideally the pattern writer would have said work 8 rows in reverse stocking stitch as this would indicate the right side being the purl side.
Cute pattern, are you making a full collection of creatures?
Now I see that the clue that the purl side is the right side in this pattern was because Sally had RS near row 18. But instead it confused me because I thought I had to be on the Knit side. Learning something every day.
I have been knitting for about one year now. And, I have 3 books by Sally and Joanne. Knit Your Own Cat, Knit Your Own Dog and Knit Your Own Zoo.
I have made some dogs, a monkey, Koala Bear, white and brown bears, elephant, lizard, panda bear. All not that good, but I am getting better. I have a hard time when it comes to the sewing the parts together.
It’s wonderful to be able to get this kind of help via this Knitting Forum. Otherwise, I would have become so frustrated trying to figure things out that I may not have moved ahead.
Sounds like a fabulous collection of animals!
We love seeing photos if you choose to share them.
There are various ways of improving seaming knitting, often dependent on what stitch is being seamed so that you can get a neat finish. I still have to look up different seaming methods for best results.
I’ve decided I’ll stop knitting when I quit learning new things. I don’t see that happening in the near future. There’s always something. I think that’s why I love knitting. It’s comfortable but there’s always something more to know and add to the mix.
