I just finished the peacock’s tail knitted doily on the yarnover.net website. The stitches are cast off with crochet of 7 chains, 3 stitches together all around until all stitches are cast off. Does this mean from the first live stitch chain 7 and then pickup the next 3 live stitches and knit them together all the way around?
Thanks.
I couldn’t find a doily with this name, however I did find these instructions on that site:
“Insert hook into the back of the next 3 stitches on left-hand needle, and work 1 double/single crochet through these sttiches to bring them together, slip stitches off left-hand needle, chain 7 repeat till end of round, ending with a slip stitch in the first double/single crochet.”
I don’t have something in front of me to do a practice piece on, but it looks like an ingenious way to finish a knitted doily!
After the last knitted stitch, I would use a crochet hook through the back loops of the next three stitches on the left needle. Either do a double or single crochet, whichever you choose, pick one that you will use, this will draw your stitches together and then slip them off your left needle, chain 7 and repeat. End with a slip stitch in the first single or double crochet.
I can’t get to that site. I must be doing something wrong. Could someone post a link, please?
I found it while poking around looking at thread patterns on ravelry:
Peacock’s Tail
Thanks, Claire. I get a white page and that’s all. Maybe it will work for me later. It’s gotta be something on my end.
The edge of the doily features three rounds of loops, pictured on ravelry.com.
After the last knitted stitch, use a crochet hook through the back loops of the next three stitches on the left needle. When you begin the first finishing round you will need to decide whether you wish to use a single crochet stitch or a double crochet stitch and use this throughout the first round. This will draw your stitches together, slip the stitches off your left needle, chain 7 and repeat. End with a slip stitch in the first single or double crochet.
For additional rows of loops:
Slip stitch to middle of first loop, ch 1, sc in same place, ch 7, sc in middle of next loop repeat, end with slip st in first sc of this round.
Hope this helps, please write back if you need further clarification.
Really, really beautiful! I love how the feather & fan is interrupted then restarted!
Patsy, I found this photo tutorial of how to work this type of bind off, HTH
Thanks for sharing about this gorgeous doily!
That is a great tutorial, thank you Charlotte. This Quadrille doily is especially pretty and shows how nicely knitted doilies can be finished with a crochet edging.
Thank you everyone for explaining the crochet bind off on the peacock doily. After looking at the photo tutorial it makes sense. Thank you, thank you and thank you.
