After a few amigurumis, I picked up two amazing crochet projects. Both Janie Crow designs.
The first one is the Kelmscott Cushion Cover. I found this project as satisfying as knitting and loved every bit of time I spent on it. The toughest part of the project was getting the right yarn in India.I found the nearest equivalent of the Stylecraft DK which is 25% wool and 75% acrylic, in Hobbystore DK anti-pill (100% acrylic and anything but anti-pill really). I was worried about the stitch definitions, as the yarn is fluffy, but the outcome is very pretty. Each of these is a flower from the gardens of UK - Columbine, Hollyhock, crysanthemum, forget me not etc. Hats off to the designer
The second project is another master piece and a very popular one for crocheters - the Marrakesh blanket, with the motifs and colors like the tiles from Marrakesh, Morocco. It is a 45 inch square throw - 41 motifs - 16 octagons, 12 large triangles, 4 small triangles, 9 squares - all joined together to make this stunning piece. Many many hours of crocheting over 2 months, many podcasts, many netflix hours
, my thoughts and reflections for company. I ended up with an overused Trapezius (the largest muscle on our back) leading to a stiff neck that is now being treated. But the masterpiece is totally worth it
Both fabulous in different ways. The Marrakesh looks like exquisite tilework. The flower garden in the two cushion covers is outstanding as crochet and as a botanical. Lovely, lovely work!
Sorry to hear about the stiff back. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I wish I could say yes - no, absolutely not mine. It is the Marrakesh blanket by Janie Crow. She has some stunning blankets based on tiles from different parts of the world - Persia, India - they are gorgeous.
I was tempted to - and even located a 45 inch square space - but my daughter has claimed it as it matches her couch perfectly. I may undertake a second one with the objective of framing. Thanks a lot
