Crochet thread for socks?

I read somewhere that someone on here uses crochet thread to knit socks… if anyone knows what I’m talking about could you elaborate. The only crochet thread I have readily availible is Traditions and only in one size.

I suspect they mean the cotton crochet thread that you’d use to make doilies.

I sure wouldn’t want to wear any socks made from that! It’s far too rough and harsh to put on people’s feet. Talk about begging for blisters!

And the stuff shrinks like all get-out the first time you wash it.

I love crochet thread for making dishcloths. There you want the harsher scrubby action as well as the absorbancy factor for soap. This, next to a lovely doily, is the best use for it.

Hope this helps,
Dot

Also, cotton crochet thread has absolutely no give, which also makes it not a good idea for socks. If you want to knit socks that have cotton in them, or need to avoid wool, then you might try http://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Crystal_Palace_Yarn-Panda_Cotton_Print_Yarn-3450.html or http://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Crystal_Palace_Yarn-Panda_Cotton_Dot_Yarn-4748.html or http://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Crystal_Palace_Yarn-Panda_Cotton_Solid_Yarn-3449.html or http://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Katia_Yarn-Mississippi_3_Print_Yarn-698.html.

For any of these yarns, you will need 2 skeins for a pair of socks.

Thank you ladies! I was kind of curious about that… I was a little shocked to hear someone using it for socks as it doesn’t seem to have much give.
