Crochet Pattern Help

I’m confused with a cardigan pattern. I am currently working on the back panel. I will try and condense the pattern and my problem.

After ch and 1st row - Total 89sts

Row 7 - Ch1, dctog2, dc in each st to end [88]

Row 8 - Ch3, tr in each st to end

Row 9-12 - as Row 7

So I read Row 9- 12 as decreasing overall and additional 4 sts making [84]?

When I get to shaping shoulders pattern reads

Row 60- ss in first 6sts, ch3, tr in each st to final 5. Turn leaving sts unworked [78]

So pattern assumes I didnt do the addional 4 decreasing sts. Where by my calculations after Row 60 I should be on 74 sts.

Is the pattern wrong or me? I really don’t want to undo all my work . Thanks in advance, hope my question makes sense.

Can you tell us the name and designer of your pattern, please? It’s very helpful if we know what the project is.

Artfully Mismatched Cardigan by Bowie and George from 2024 edition, your crochet Christmas magazine

It looks like the pattern does take into account the decrease of 4sts over rows 9-12 leaving 84sts. In row 60, work into the sts as given turning when you reach the final 5sts. That would mean you’ve worked into 79sts when you turn leaving the final 5sts unworked. The pattern says 78sts so is there another decrease between rows 12 and 60?

Not that I can see. Unless im being obliviously blind (which wouldn’t surprise me!). Am I allowed the upload a photo of the section of the pattern? Don’t know what the rules are on that

A short section of the pattern would be fine. We can’t post large portions due to designer copyright. Thank you for thinking of that.

Any on the pattern and stitch count appreciated.
This project shows the back shoulder shaping.

I wonder if it should say “Rows 9-12 as Row 8”? It’s unusual to refer back a row like that. If you repeat Row 8 instead of 7, you wouldn’t have those extra decreases.

88 stitches after row 7, minus 5 slip stitches = 81, minus 5 left unworked = 78. You don’t deduct for one of the 6 slip stitches because it holds the chain 3 to start the next row. So you’ve decreased 5 stitches on each side for the armholes, which makes sense.

According to that one project on Ravelry, the pattern isn’t exactly error-free. (The right sleeve is missing 12 rows, which she extrapolated from the left sleeve instructions).

I’m currently at row 60. Should I undo the work I’ve done or just modify the stiches in the shape shoulders section to eventually reach 28 sts? Will it make a difference?

What is the gauge/tension you’re working at? How much of a size difference will those 4 missing stitches make? In other words, is the back wide enough? You could compare it to another cardigan you like the fit of.

If it seems like it will fit, I would do the armhole decreases as written, stopping when you get to 28 stitches.
