CROCHET HELP: patterns?

okay umm, what are patterns??? i am not so sure about what they are. are they instructions on how to do a specific “thing” or just suggestions? and i noticed some of them we have to download? are there any things online because i am not allowed to download…

Most patterns are specific instructions for accomplishing the project. The best give clear step-by-step directions, sometimes photos, sometimes charts. In a some cases, there are general techniques that are left up to you but most of the steps are spelled out. It’s like a cookbook recipe. Follow the steps to get to the end. When you know what you’re doing, you can add in your own variatons and modify the pattern, er recipe.
There are patterns online that you can find without having to download. Take a look around Ravelry (free to join) and Pattern Central. Even just Googling a project type (crocheted hat, sweater) will pull up pattern links.

thanks. i did google up a few. i am interested in a basic rose patter  i think i will try it after getting enough wool

Very  analogy, I’ve actually seen one or two patterns that are referred to as ‘recipes’.

i am trying to follow one pattern right now a basic rose pattern. here is the link http://www.planetjune.com/blog/free-crochet-patterns/basic-rose/

in that one there are parts about stitches, single crochets double crochets n chains…
since i learned from my mom and she taught me in our language i dont really understand what is a stitch n a crochet. isn’t it the same thing? ;o

Here is a glossary of crochet stitches both videos and tutorials that may help (scroll down to see list in each category).

and here are a couple more sites that may help you put names to the stitches.

Great to have your mom as a teacher.
