Creating a doll pattern

I’m going to attempt to knit a Nietzsche doll. I was going to use the Knit Your Own Rockstar pattern from Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Nation, but I really don’t like the way the heads look. I’m also not thrilled about all the seeming. Anyone done a doll with parts knit in the round?
I checked Knitting Pattern Central and didn’t find any that I liked. Any other suggestions? Or any tips for dimensions for making my own? I’m really not good with things that have to do with proportions!

Thanks!

Did you see this thread?

I did! And I plan to try something like that, but I still have no idea in inches or in stitches what size to make anything. Any suggestions, Ingrid the Wise?

Nope!

I haven’t made dolls. I did make that alpaca purse on dpns, but I just followed the pattern. Since you’re not making something huge, you could play with it. Maybe start with just a few stitches and increasing to the size you want and then decreasing. Just kind of watch it develop and take it from there.

I’m amazed that you didn’t find a Nietzsche doll in the free patterns section. :rofling: :rofling:

Fun-ny. :stuck_out_tongue:
I looked at a leprachaun, some angels, a bunch of babies…I guess I’m just picky. I knew I’d have to play with any pattern I found, anyway. AND figure out a way to knit his crazy moustache!

I suppose I’ll have to write this down as I do it, as I’m making two of them. And I’m not going to stop with Nietzsche! I’m going to attempt a Kant, a Heidegger, and a Descartes, too. :roflhard: Maybe I’ll even make a Plato.

Are you planning on handing them in instead of papers? :rofling:

No, but that would probably work out better for me.
My professor from last quarter suggested “Existentialist Movie Reviewer” for my future job, then joked that I could have my own TV show with a knit philosopher audience…“like the Muppets, only better/creepier.”

Okay, so it actually IS working itself out pretty well. I finished the body and the head (all done in one piece), duplicate stitched some eyes and shrit detail (kinda messy), knit and attached a moustache…and now I have no idea how to do the hair. If I wanted to attach individual strands of yarn to the head, how would I do that and keep them from falling out? Just tie knots in the back and hope for th best? I looked at the Rockstar pattern in Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Nation, but all it said for its hair was to “attach yarn to head.” Not very helpful. I’m not even sure this is the best way to do the hair, since it needs to be short and I’m pretty sure this will make it stick up…but it might work.
If I can get past this, I’ve just got arms and legs and I’ll be finished, with my first ever written pattern, by tomorrow! :cheering:

Can’t wait to see it!

I’m writing down each row as I do it…The one after the moustache section says, “attach to face moustachurely.” :roflhard: I guess I’m not much better than the S’n’B pattern for clarity. Not like anyone ELSE in the world is ever going to want this pattern, though.

Maybe these people will want them for their mascot!

That’s pretty funny. I had no idea that existed.

I finished the hair, Ingrid! It looks pretty crazy, though.

Eistein had crazy hair, why not Nietzsche?
