Cozy, anyone?

this very same thing happened to a friend who ordered some Reynolds Mandalay from them. She didn’t find out either until she checked where it was. They did let her cancel it after we found her stuff at a LYS, for a better price even, so we got lucky. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you, Stacey! I still haven’t touched mine, still at 2 repeats. feh!

Any word on your Mandalay, Stacey?

I haven’t cast on…yet…

Well, I double-checked with Herrschner’s and they said they wouldn’t get it in until June 29!!! I combed the internet looking for other sources, but with zero luck.

Then I happened to be looking at an Interweave Knits magazine (the first I’ve ever bought) and saw an ad in the classifieds for an LYS here in Ann Arbor and among the yarns it listed was Reynolds. So I called on Saturday to see if they carried Mandalay, which they do, but they were out of my color. So the owner is ordering some today and she thinks it will be in by Friday! I’m very excited! :cheering:

In the meantime, I am filling my time by repeatedly screwing up my first Simply Lovely Lace Sock and also knitting a couple of toy dinosaurs for my boys!

:happydance: :happydance: :happydance: woo hoo! :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

I keep looking at Cozy too…it’s beautiful! I’m not sure I’m ready for lace yet though.

Doooooooooo itttttttttttt!

I agree with gardenmommy DO ITTTTTTTTTT!!!

It really is a simple pattern - it was my first lace project and while it took a while because it is so big, it was a great first lace project!

I’m looking for afordable yarn substitutions…I’m way strapped for fundage at the moment. Anybody have any ideas?

Well, I would think that any soft yarn that is light worsted weight or DK would work. The gauge is 4.5 stitches per inch in stockinette.

I’m thinking about using alpaca, microfiber, or merino wool.

I wonder if Caron simply soft would work…it’s light worsted and cheap! And happen to have some…

My budget is like a vice at the moment! I’m trying to feed two of us on about $30 a week so it’s hard to justify buying yarn outta that. Though, a skein or two sneaks in occaisionally…ahem coughs

Or maybe I’ll save this project for when I can buy good yarn. Sighs

It’s so pretty. I would love to have one for fall.

I’ll bet that Simply Soft would work just fine!

Just bumping us up.

Still stalking my LYS. Stopped by yesterday and the yarn still hasn’t arrived. I ordered it 2 weeks ago, and they originally told me it should be in on the 9th. :frowning: I compared the color I ordered to the ones they had in stock, to see if I could persuade myself to get one they already had. But I just love the color I chose, and my friend who was with me agreed. So I’m still waiting.

What’s everyone else up to?

I’ve started mine with some alpaca I got on eBay. I’m wondering how it will look, since it’s dark brown!

LYS called today and my yarn is in! I’m going to pick it up in about an hour and hope to cast on tonight. :happydance:

:cheering: :cheering: I’m so happy you get to start Stacey!

Sandy - how is Cozy coming in the brown? Do you like it?

I love the way the alpaca feels, so that part is wonderful! The only thing I don’t like is the way the alpaca has some stray hairs interfering with the lace pattern.

I might decide to change to a different yarn. Time will tell.

I too love Alpaca (or apalaca or alapaca as I prefer to pronounce it  )!

Do you think you’ll have to block the alpaca hard? If so it might show more of the lace pattern that way. I used a yarn that had a lot of cotton in it and it didn’t show the lace at all until I blocked it - just a thought!

This almost makes me want to knit another cozy!

:cheering: Woo hoo! I haven’t cast on yet, but I’ve been admiring my Pima Silk.

Maybe this weekend I can get started after I get caught up from being out of town!

Thanks for the advice. This is my very first “real” lace project, so I’m learning as I go. The only other lace I’ve done was the Feather and Fan baby afghan I made.

I’ve never blocked anything in my life. Yikes! I’ll be learning that too. This whole “Cozy” business is going to be good for me.

Well, here’s a pic of my progress. I’m really enjoying the project so far, except for my problem with the edges. I’ve ended up making the edges look different from each other b/c I’m slipping the first st of each row purlwise but not doing anything different at the end of each row (like knitting the last st of each row). So one edge looks sort of stockinette-ish and the other looks sort of garter-ish. Argh.

I think I’m going to have to frog. :crying:

sara jayne, do it, do it, start another Cozy!
