Country Classic Dyes. Has any used these dyes? I am very interested in this one step dye. it claims to be cheaper than using koolaid. do you have to boil it or can it sit in the sun in a ziplock like Koolaid? how many package of koolaid do you have to use?How do you get an MSDS on it?

I don’t know about them but I don’t like the idea of using Koolaid.
Kool Aid makes a fantastic dye for wool and other protein fibers. There are several tutorials on line on different ways to use Kool Aid for dyeing. The colors are bright, it’s inexpensive and probably the easiest way to learn dyeing.
Not to mention it’s a much better use of KA than drinking it, it’s environmentally sound and above all lots of fun! :woot:

I wonder how safe Those Country Classic dyes are? Can you use your usual pots and utensils? Or do you have to have pots dedicated to dying? That’s what I like about KA, my toddler (or I) won’t be poisoned by it.

Yeah I have 4 under the age of 4. So I am leaning towards KA and food coloring as well. But when I saw this one step dye. I wondered if it was “ok”. I really plan on doing some solar dyeing too so with the critters and kids running around the KA may be better. I really want to try some plant/bark stuff too. I am rushing to get my fleeces cut/washed and ready to go!
Any suggested sites for the KA dyeing tuturials? I mean how much do you have to use to cast any color? I have not see or read any about “how much” KA you use for whatever oz.

I guess I have a mindset against drinking it so I’m prejudiced. Do your fibers not bleed when you clean them?
We don’t drink it either! 
It’s only good for dying!
The only thing that bleeds for me is a wool diaper cover. It doesn’t bleed onto his clothes, only the cloth diaper underneath. It’s the urine causing it to bleed. And it washes right out of the cotton diaper.
Not if the dye is set properly with heat.
The citric acid in the KA is what makes it work. If one is using food coloring, one must add an acid, like vinegar, in order for the dye to work.
Bleeding is caused because the fiber can’t take up any more dye and the remaining unattached dye molecules just cling to the outside of the fiber. When water is put on them, they flow off or bleed. This will happen with any dyepot that has more molecules of dye than the fiber can absorb. Or the dye wasn’t heat set properly.
I’ve used the microwave, a pot of simmering water, the crock pot, plastic bags in the sun, :hot: gallon jars in the sun, and the oven as heat. All have worked and I’ve not had any bleeding at all.
KA and food coloring, as I said, are environmentally sound dyes. All “real” dyes have mordants that can be dangerous to children and other living things. Some of them should be treated as hazardous wastes and not poured into the public sewer systems.
Play with some KA and see how much fun it is. A search will bring up tons of KA tutorials.
