I’m having a real job figuring out how many rows i have done, the pattern is K for 6 rows, K a row - purl a row for 6 rows…should be sooooo easy… and i counted so many times last night and just couldn’t figure out if i was counting the right stitches :wall: I think i MAY be counting the end of my last - and the beginning of my first - garter stitch rows?
So for 6 rows of stockinette stitch, should i have 6 V stitches? It kinda looks like 8 :??
Arghhhhhh!!!
It’s driving me crazy, i just can’t keep track of where i am in the pattern… I haven’t explained what i mean very well…
I have the 3 ridges, but the stockinette has thrown me. I have lost track of what row i was on, and now i can’t work it out…if you slightly stretch a garter stitch pattern you can see 2 V’s on top of each other…or is that the bottom half of the purl stitch?
If my garter stitch ends with a row of ridges, then there must be a smooth knit row at the beginning of my garter section?? So therefore, doesn’t that mean there are more than 6 V’s for the rows in between the ridges? (6 for Stockinette +1 for the first garter row?)
Okay, you’ve knit 6 rows of garter - k,p,k,p,k,p - which leaves 3 purl ridges on each side. The next row you start the 6 rows of stockinette - k,k,k,k,k,k. Turn the piece to the back side and there will be 6 purl rows uninterrupted by a knit row, like the garter is. That’s the 6 rows of stockinette. Turn back to the front side and continue with the 6 garter rows.
Yes it does…thanks… i’ve done too many rows of stockinette
i need to find a better way of keeping track of my rows…if i had problems with this pattern, i’m going to get soooo lost when i do something more demanding.
With a 6 row repeat it’s easy enough to count the st sts on the back to see if you’re there yet, or need to work another row or two. Also, if you count and you have 7 purl rows, that’s okay - you’ve just done the first row of the garter st rows! It’ll get easier to `read’ your work with practice and more experience.
