I recently learned to knit socks and am doing very well if I do say so myself. I’m looking for cotton sock yarn for summer socks. Can anyone recommend something tried and true?
BTW…I’m new to the forum. I’ve been knitting for over 40 yrs, but just expanded my ability in the past couple of years thanks to online sites such as this! I’m looking forward to sharing with you all!
I’m making a pair with Cascade Fixation right now and am quite happy with it.
I’ve made several pair so far with Elann Esprit.

It’s just about identical with Cascade Fixation. They both have just under 2% elastic. It takes a little getting used to because there is so much stretch to the yarn, but they stay up well and are comfortable. If you make them a little large you can machine wash.
Crystal Palace panda Cotton is nice, too - it’s a blend of cotton, bamboo and elastic.
I recent got some Cascade Cotton Rich DK that I’m going to make socks from. I know this is a thicker yarn and I’m sure it will work up into some nice socks. I have color 1457
Where did you find this yarn? I found the panda yarn with wool but not without. I wish I had a LYS nearby.
Plymouth makes a “Socketta” that isn’t so stretchy. Depends on what you like to knit with.

Here are a couple on line shops that have the panda cotton in stock.
I got Plymouth’s Sockotta here https://www.discontinuedbrandnameyarn.com/searchresults.html?search=sockotta&submitButtonName=GO! .
I haven’t used cotton sock yarn yet, so I don’t know what I like! I want the socks to fit, not get bigger as the day goes by, and not drive my crazy while I knit! The yarn with elastic sort of makes me wonder how to knit with it. I mean, it has soooo much stretch, will I end up with a sock that looks like a ruffle until I put it on? How does that work? I experimented with Bernat Cool Crochet yarn, a 75/25 cotton/nylon blend, and it was working up loose. It just sort of laid there, sort of limp. Patons is coming out with a new yarn called Patons Stretch Sock yarn to ship in May. It’s a cotton/wool blend with elastic. That seems a little hot for 95 degree days. Help!
It’s recommended that you stretch the yarn about half when knitting. I just finished my 4th pair with this yarn. It looks like a regular sock before wearing and it doesn’t stretch out and slide down when wearing. I machine wash and throw in the dryer on low heat. The socks don’t completely dry on 1 cycle so I lay them out to finish drying (I don’t want them to shrink too much.) They hug your feet well and are comfortable. The yarn is really nice for lace patterns and any designs that don’t have natural elasticity.
It is definitely different to work with, but I found it an ok experience. Ravelry has a ton of FO that people have made with both Esprit and Fixation.
