Convert chart to written

Hello
I pasted a link below for a shawl in a chart pattern. How do I make this into a written pattern. the stitches all seem to repeat, but I get so confused on charts. Please help. Thank you.

Another gorgeous shawl!
You can read the chart right to left for each odd numbered row (only the odd number rows are given in the chart).
Row 1: yarn over, k1, yarn over
Row 3: yarn over, k3, yarn over
For the first rows of the repeat,
Row 19: k1, yarn over, p1, p3tog, p1, yarn over.
Row 21 knit the row

I find that it helps to put a sticky note one row above the one I’m working so I’m sure which row of the chart to read. I also color code some of the unusual boxes of the chart, like the p3tog so that it’s easier to see at a glance.

Hello,

I am confused already lol. On Row 3 it states in part yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo

does this mean I do 2 YO right before the bolded K1?

Please see link.

Deann, your first post referred to the Lion’s Lace pattern and this question is referring to the Haruni scarf, right?

On Chart A, row 3 you only have one repeat before the bolded center stitch and one repeat after that center stitch, so no double yarn overs.
Row 3, sl1, k2, * yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo * , k1, repeat from * to * , k3

Yes the Haruni. Okay, I am going by the written pattern. In this line it shows * yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo *
So a YO as the last stitch before the * and YO after the first *.

So you are saying I only do this once?

Yes, you only do the repeat once on each side of the center so you don’t have back to back repeats.

Oh my goodness. I never would have guess that. Then if it is not a repeat, why is it written as such with * to * ??
:grphug:

You don’t repeat back to back but the section in repeated on the other side of the central knit stitch, the bolded k1…
