I am really…REALLY excited. I knit continental method & just taught myself how to knit the English method. It is sometimes a problem if I am knitting for long periods of time to only know one way so I am hoping this will be great to have another style to use. :woot:
You might have a really good idea there.
Congrats on your new skill!
It’s good to know both for doing stranded knitting, too!
I completely agree! I can only knit English. I’ve attempted Continental, but can’t really get the hang of it. I find stranded knitting TORTUROUS! I’m sure if I were more proficient in Continental, it would work out better.
Good for you!
I didn’t know what stranded knitting was so I found a video on youtube. Wow… that is beyond what I can do at this point…but maybe someday. It looks really hard but I can see where both ways to knit would be big asset. I am still really slow but with practice it will get better…I hope. :teehee:
Thanks for the encouragement!

Hey, Pam! :waving:
This is the most super video on continental knitting I’ve ever seen. It really helped me learn and now that I have, I love it! Hope this helps you.

And congrats, Artist, on acquiring your new skill. It will really come in handy! Here’s a video for you, too, that makes stranding seem do-able. I recently used it to work my first fair isle piece and it’s awesome!

Have fun! And happy knitting (and learning!)

Pam…Yes, yes, yes…the viedo that Ruthie posted on learning how to knit continental method is the one I used to learn how to knit. It is amazing!!!
Ruthie…thanks for the stranding viedo…it’s a keeper! I might actually be able to do this with some practice. :happydance:

Hi, Bev…:waving:
Hyperactive made these super videos on doing 2 color knitting, where there are no floats since all the yarn is woven in, (just like the Philosopher’s Wool method) and doing it CONTINENTAL, with both yarns held in the left hand. She’s also got a demonstration on the Purl one that you can use if you’re knitting flat and have to do a wrong side row. These are amazing but she’s moving really fast.
She’s promised to re-do them in slooooooower motion and will let us know when. But meanwhile the fast ones are still very good if you can just speed up your eyeballs! :roflhard:

I’d definitely recommend practicing the Philosopher’s Wool method first, just to get the technique sorted out in your artist’s mind’s eye. Then when you try it continental it just flows so beautifully! At least that’s how I learned it and it was super!
Let us know how it goes for you!
Happy knitting, :knitting:
Ruthie:hug:
Hi Ruthie,
Thanks for taking your time to post the videos… they are amazing…I couldn’t get my eyeballs to speed up…tried…but they just wouldn’t do it. I remember seeing the neck warmer posted here. It is SO beautiful. Yep, great to use the continental method for both yarns.
Happy knitting
