I am working on shaping the back neck and shoulders of my pattern. A lot of these concepts are new to me-- I haven’t ever used a stitch holder and just worked part of a sweater and this is my first go at cables.
Here is the part that I am having trouble with:
“Maintaining continuity of rib pattern, patt across 9 sts, turn and leave rem sts on holder. Working on these 9 sts in patt for right side of neck, dec 1 st at neck edge of next and foll alt rows.
Next row: Bind off 4 sts, patt to end.
Next row: Bind off rem 2 sts.”
???
I just decreased the stitch by k2tog, and am now on the WS. Do I work the first “Next row” and then decrease a row, then follow with the 2nd “Next row?”
I have frogged more than I have knit on this baby, so any help would be very appreciated.

Okay, lets break that down…
“patt across 9 sts, turn and leave rem sts on holder. Working on these 9 sts in patt for right side of neck, dec 1 st at neck edge of next and foll alt rows.”
You have turned, leaving the sts on your holder, now work that row with a dec at the neck edge. Do the row after that in pattern, then another row with a dec at the neck edge. Then…
“Next row: Bind off 4 sts, patt to end.”
This will begin at the shoulder edge, I think, then turn and -
"Next row: Bind off rem 2 sts." BO the last 2 sts.
