Confused by pattern instructions

This pattern begins with the following instructions:

Needles: Size 15.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cast on 40 stitches:

Row l: Knit across with merino and fun fur, then slide back to beg. without turning work. Row 2: knit across row with ribbon. You will now turn work and be on the Purl side.

It’s Row 1 that has me confused. I don’t know what is meant by "sliding back to beginning without turning work, other than when working an I-cord on a dpn. :??

Can someone please explain this to me?

Since you’re using a different yarn on the second row, you wouldn’t have to bring your yarn across the back to knit the row again the way you do with an icord. The only way I see this working easily, though is if you have circs. If you’re working on straights, you’d have to transfer the work back to the left needle.

I’m going to have to read this a few more times, and try and contemplate what you’re telling me. I just can’t seem to get a visual. :??

Thank you for answering!

well if i am understanding correctly you have just knit a row with the merino and fun fur. then you are pulling your work back across like you are going to do an i-cord but instead of pulling the working yarn of fun fur and merino across the back, you are going to start a new yarn (in the same way as you would change colors to create stripes.) then you are knitting across to the end again.

THEN you turn your work and whatever working yarns you need will be in the right place for you to begin the next row.

Okay, I think I’ve got it, now.

I read Ingrid’s instructions again, then followed up with your’s, Brendajo, then suddenly it all clicked. I truly do seem to have a learning disability when it comes to getting a “picture” of what I read. :wall:

For some reason, when they were saying to “slide” the work back, I was picturing to slide it down the needle.
