I am a beginner knitter and I wanted to make baby mittens. Here is the pattern I wanted to use as there is no extra stiches apart from knit and purl: https://web.archive.org/web/20130601015611/http://www.mindseyeyarns.com/free-patterns/childrens/fast-baby-mittens/
However, the ending is confusing me. If I am making these on straight needles and so not in the round, how do I in the end " pass the end through the remaining sts. Sew in ends. "? Thank you for any help you can give.
Here’s a video. You’re going to cinch up the remaining sts by gathering them onto the yarn strand.
I notice that the pattern recommends joining the 2 mittens with a cord. That sounds like a dangerous idea to me. I don’t like the idea of the cord, short or long.
I think it would be ok since the cord goes thru the coat sleeves. It keeps the mittens on the hands AND keeps the mittens from getting lost!!!

Ah, I was thinking about infants and small babies. You’re right, you often see children with the mittens connected through the sleeves of jackets.
Some adults really need the string, too!
