Confused about an icord

Hi,
New to the forum, fairly new to knitting

I am knitting a loose fit oversized hood by counting rows and can’t figure out how best to add a drawstring. Would you:

  1. Change the edge stitch to the icord edge? I assume you can thread an icord through an icord edge?
  2. Knit an icord and then knit it into the main knitting picking up stitches after I have finished?
  3. Make a tunnel/flap by picking up stitches and folding in half?

Thank you in advance for any advice. I’m still learning :joy:

Welcome to KH!
What is the name of your pattern and designer? Are there any instructions for the drawstring?
Your best solution is probably knitting a flap and hemming it. That’s the way many hoods are made.
Depending on the yarn weight, threading an i-cord through an i-cord won’t be simple. I’m not sure I understand how the second idea will work as a drawstring.

Thank you for answering. The pattern doesn’t have a drawstring but my sister has requested one be added :woman_facepalming:t2:

I think you are right about the second idea not working- I hadn’t thought about the practical reason for a drawstring as it would just sit along the edge-:joy: the video I saw this in was for a baby bonnet so very different.

I will do the knitted flap! Thank you

So nice to fulfill your sister’s request. Have fun with it and let us see a photo when you finish please.

Another question, if I am going to make a flap, should I use stockinette to the end of each row rather than the edge stitch the patterns states;
yarn in front, slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit

Pattern is Loose Fit Balaclava -Oversize Hood by Counting Rows

TIA

That’s a nice edge stitch but if you’re going to fold over the edge and hem it to the row ends you might just continue in stockinette or possibly reverse stockinette for the drawstring casing.
Could you try a smooth ribbon as drawstring and see if there is enough room in the edge stitch for it? Maybe try it on a swatch.
