Columbo, Monk or Poirot? Who's Your Favorite Detective?

I’m addicted to Monk (new season starts 8/7, BTW ;)). I’ve always loved mysteries and romances bore me stiff!!! My 3 favs are definitely (in this order: Monk, Columbo & Poirot). Who is your favorite & why?

I’m a bit of a neat freak so I know I love Monk & Poirot for their orderliness :teehee:…which begs the question why do I love Columbo? He’s a mess, but he’s a genius as the other 2 also are.

Don’t watch TV, but read a lot of mysteries. Nero Wolfe is the greatest, no question. Of course, he’d be nothing without Archie.

Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson on [B]The Closer[/B]-- technically she’s not a detective, but she’s my favorite “mystery solver” & I love Criminal Minds for crime drama.

You forgot the most brilliant detective of all time whom nearly every fictional detective borrowed from: Sherlock Holmes. :slight_smile: Amy and I are huge fans of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. Poirot is another of our favorites. Our evenings in the winter usually consist of a wood stove fire, a Sherlock Holmes or Poirot episode and Amy working on some knitting project.

Nero Wolfe and Archie–Rex Stout

This is a hard one. But I’d have to go with Monk for sure! Isn’t this the last season though? I hope they will have reruns on. How about Miss Marple? This used to be on when I was a kid and it kind of scared me for some reason :0)

I love Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis. Especially Milo. Second or third place, probably Kay Scarpetta.

I, too, am a fan of Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. That sounds like the most relaxing evening to have. I wish my hubby liked murder mysteries as much as I do. I have a huge collection of Poirot. Unfortunately, I have to watch them alone. On the up side - it’s usually hubby that’s buying me the dvds so - I’ll keep him.

Has anyone mentioned Brother Cadfael? He’s another fave of mine.
