CO in the middle of a row

hi again,

i’m still working on my box … getting cross-eyed…

anyway. pattern states (for making handle [big hole] in the side of my box) 'On the next row, k4, CO 4, k4." simple, i’m sure. but what the heck?!! previous instruction was to BO 4 which i got. help again, please?

thanks so much,

sara

There are several ways to CO in the middle of the row. The easiest is probably the backward loop.

Cast On help

If on the previous row you BO 4 then you’ll be adding the 4 back by CO. The next row is probably just knitting as normal.

thanks, jan. got it!

that one is definitly easy - is there a CO that is considered “better” to use? or does it even matter?

sounds like a buttong hole
BO 4 in one row
then CO 4 in the next

is that right??

In the final analysis I don’t think it matters. It’s personal preference.

ecb - yeah, it’s close to a button hole. i’m actually making a little felted box. the hole i’m making will eventually (and i stress eventually) be a handle.

i’m a couple rows past the handle now and it looks fine. i was just asking about other variations because of my incessant need to do things “right”. and i’m a bit of a perfectionist. i just need to relax!!
