Dishcloths -
Any cotton will work. Some people prefer the inexpensive Sugar and Cream type that you can purchase at local stores like Michaels, Joanns and Hobby Lobby or online.
For a dust cloth Microspun might work. Available at the previous sources.
I need to spring clean, but I will have to do it before I put more things in my knitting que. :teehee:
Thank you for all the links! I’m hoping to be able to make some of the swiffer covers before the end of the month and the scrubbies would make great gifts to go with dishcloths.
Oh this going to be good for me. Had surgery on my right hand and I am just starting to be able to knit. Dish cloths are just the right size and my hand won’t get to tired. Plus it is good excise for the hand. So yup I am in on this kal, thanks Jan for coming up with spring cleaning.
I’ve never made one before, because I didn’t really like the look of it. :teehee: But, after seeing one in the flesh [I](in the yarn?)[/I] :think: , it looks nice.
And the pattern is SUPER EASY. You only have to tie on the first color change. After that, you just leave the yarns hanging, and pick them up to use them at the appropriate row. It’s not like fair-isle or intarsia…it’s MUCH simpler.
The hardest part was figuring out the YF YB parts, but it only took me about 10 seconds to understand it. Now, it’s a breeze.
I got a couple of really small and really quick things done:
Tribble(pattern is the 3rd one down) - This was so easy and quick and is a great way to use up a very small bit of yarn. I couldn’t get my hole completely closed up because I wanted to finish off my yarn. It was a bit longer than it should have been, but will still work great!
Dishwasher magnet - Another very quick project. Also uses [B]very[/B] little yarn. I will have to get a suction cup with a hook for this. My magnet was just a little craft magnet and is not strong enough to work through the yarn.
I really liked both of these and would knit them up again. I think the Tribble will be my go to pattern for very small bits of left over cotton.
Lieuvena, I’ve been wanting to make some of those Tribbles. I think I’ll make a couple to go with the ballband dishcloths I’m making for my mom and mother-in-law.
I’ve been dying to try these ‘coasters’, only they can be anything you want, like a dishcloth or washcloth. You probably remember the Knitty Gritty episode on Modular Knitting
Hmmm… another KAL that I can probably handle! Not going to over extend myself, but I think maybe I can handle a scrubbie! Now to decide which one… I’d like to make the one Artlady perfected, but must get myself some tulle!
I’ve made a bunch of them now. My 3 daughters and my housekeeper love them! I do a smaller, denser version of Artlady’s scrubbie. I prefer a smaller one and a tighter weave for scrubbing. Here’s my version -
Folding yarn inside netting cast on 16 stitches with size 10 needles, knit for about 9 or 10 ridges (18-20 rows) and bind off. Weave in ends.
You’ll need to stop and fold in the yarn into the netting every so often. I try not to let any yarn show that is not covered with the netting to keep it from getting worn away with scrubbing.
BTW… tulle is generally that soft bridal stuff which probably isn’t strong enough for scrubbing. Look for a more hefty netting or buy it online at the links I shared in the first post.
I ended up with a row of dots along the top. I’m not sure what to do to not get those. I assume I shouldn’t have slipped the stiches on the last pink row. Does that sound right? I’d like to make this again (I’d like to do orange and black) and would prefer not to have those.
Sorry for the bad picture. We are having very stormy and gray weather today. I just can’t seem to get a good one. The color on mine is more like the one on the pattern page. Bright pink and black.
