Circular needles

I am knitting a hat on a circular needle. I am at the point to where I am decreasing every other row until seven stitches are left. I have about 26 stitches left. It’s getting impossible to work the stitches . Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

I’m doing the same thing, right now, but I’m using the method that uses 2 sets of circular needles, which gets around that problem.

With just one circular, I’m pretty sure you have to switch to dpn’s once it gets too awkward.

Someone more experienced than I am will help you more than I can though, so not to worry

Good luck with it - be sure to post a photo when you’re done!

I assume you must be using a 16" circular? If so you can’t knit an entire hat with that length. Your choices are to get DPN (double pointed needles), another circular so you can use one on each side or get one long circular to use magic loop.

There are videos in the video section for all techniques.

My preference is to make hats start to finish using magic loop.

What’s already been said. Do yourself a favor and look at interchangeable needles with really flexible cables. The ones in the shop here are wonderful. They’re all I ever use anymore.

If I use a double ended needle do I use two straight needles and transfer them to one and just knit with the other. I am about to give up. I do have another circular needle but have no idea what to do with it?? I haven’t knitted in a long long time. I am into crocheting.

You can use the second circular this way.
With the dpns, you can put the sts on 3 needles and use the 4th needle as your working needle.

I’ve done two hats so far on 16-inch circular needles. Mine are the Knitter’s Pride Nova, the ones with a metal cable. When I get down to the last few decreases, I do a sort of modified Magic Loop method where the cable just bends a bit on its own and sticks out (like a loop) between stitches. So I then knit the few stitches closest to the end of the needle, then I slide a few more over the cable up to the needle. I just keep doing that until I’m done. It sounds odd, but it works with the Nova needles. I can’t do it on my interchangeable ones, and I’ve noticed with the shortest interchangeable, it is so stiff I can’t even get it to bend at all, it just wants to stay straight. So I mostly work with the Novas for hats.

I hope that makes sense.
