Cicular knitting

I have a question. I want to do a pattern that calls for knitting in the round but I don’t have circs the size I need and can’t afford any right now. My question is this can I just knit it flat and seam up the side? I don’t mind seaming so could I do it.
Thanks In Advance.

If you knit it flat, you’re going to have to make sure that you reverse the stitch instructions. What I mean is that when you knit in the round, the pattern comes out all on one side (the outside) of your work, so the pattern is written that way. You’re never turning your work, so if you’re supposed to have SS stitch, then knitting flat would mean that you knit/purl each row, but knitting in the round means that you knit each round.

Does that make sense?

Anyhow, keeping that in mind, I guess the seaming would just depend on what you’re doing. I know that you can knit hats flat and seam them after.

I would think you would also have to add at least one stitch on each end for your seaming… and pay attention to any shaping that needs to be done too.

I’ve knit flat patterns in the round before (I hate seaming, so I prefer to just knit in the round when I’m doing a round object), and as long as you understand the concept that auburnchick was describing about knitting in the round not having wrong side rows, so you have to reverse every other row when knitting a flat pattern in the round, yeah - I see no problems with knitting most round patterns flat.
