Hi, I’m trying to replicate the heel of this stocking, so I can knit another one that matches it. Could someone help me figure out a pattern to match this heel? I’m a bit confused as to why there are purl stitches in there, and it doesn’t look quite like the basic heel flaps I’ve knitted before.
Hi and welcome to KnittingHelp!
There are many expert sock knitters here and I’ll bet they’ll be able to offer their expert advice. I’m wondering id this is an eye of partridge heel, like this. it may help to see the heel straight on so that the whole heel flap is visible. See if you think the heel shown in the video matches up to the one you’d like to copy.
Yeah, I think that could be it. A different view of the heel flap would be good, one of the back so the stitch pattern shows up better.
It looks like a standard sock heel pattern to me, which is typically worked on half the stitches available (ie, if you have 64 stitches, the heel flap is worked on 32 of them). I’ll give you the instructions for 32 stitches.
Knit across 32 stitches on the RS and use these as your heel stitches, the other stitches will be picked up again later.
R1: WS. Slip the first stitch as if to purl, purl all the way across
R2: RS. Slip the first stitch as if to knit, K1, S1 to end
Repeat these two rows until the heel is the desired length.
It looks like the eye of the partridge is it!
Not quite, Eye of Partridge is a four row repeat, this is a two row repeat.
Eye of Partridge:
Row 1: (right side) * SL 1, K 1*, repeat across, ending with K 1.
Row 2: and all even rows: SL 1, purl across row.
Row 3: SL 2, * K 1, SL 1,* repeat across row ending with K 2.
Row 4: repeat Row 2.
There’s a nicephoto here of this stitch, you might be able to compare it to the stocking you have to see if it looks the same.
