[COLOR=“Magenta”]Hi ya…this is something I think I asked before,but can’t find the answer to…and it’s something I’m confident I should know,but don’t…
I have a pattern that calls for: Noro kochoran…the yarn is gorgeous,but too spendy for me at this point. I’d like something else that would work,and it does not have to be wool,or angora…just something that looks good,and doesn’t pill,and maybe hand washable. It doesn’t have to be cheap,just less $$ than the twenty bucks per hank that this goes for. When I’m a more confident knitter, I’ll go for it,but for now…money’s tight.
The noro is as follows
50% wool 20% silk 30% angora
100 grams
176 yards in ea. skein
and use a needle u.s.#8
with 4.5 sts per inch.
From all that, what am I suppose to carry with me when I walk into a yarn store…and looking for something that will work.
and …please please, I am a beginner…many thanks for this~

A worsted weight wool blend yarn would be what you look for. You may or may not like the price of others with the silk and angora as that may make it just as expensive as the Noro.
When substituting yarns what you want to look for is something that is the same weight/gauge unless you want to recalculate the pattern for a different gauge.
If 100g of the original is 176 yards and a size 8 needle is recommended, you’ll want something that is the same or very close to that.
Here are two of your previous posts re: subbing the Noro Kochoran:

i know i’ve been here w/the same question…it’s connecting to me like dividing fractions,it just isn’t clear. but i promise i won’t ask the same question again,as i can see where it would get ‘old’ answering it over and over.
thank you:wink:
Don’t worry about it, ask what you need. That’s what we’re here for.
