Hi, I am having problems finding sizing for childrens hats. I found a chart but it says 8.50 ins for a baby and I am sure that will be too long as I have been knitting Ladies Beanies and the finished length is 8.50 ins??? As I knit for my local charities I have no children to take measurements from.so need some guidance please.
Childrens Hats
I often refer to the charts on Bev’s Country Cottage.
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/size-chart.html
For babies the finished height is less than 8.5 inches but reaches that height at 4 years. Children do have large heads in proportion to body height but better too long a hat than too short.
For a child’s beanie, I usually knit for about 5.5 inches from the cast on before starting decreases to shape the crown.
