CHARTS are ALWAYS read r to l then l to r?

I decided to make this really nice headband this morning.
She does not elaborate on the chart, it’s not even numbered or anything. (Actually, there is a mistake because she says do the
19 rows of the chart and there are only 17!)

So… is it definite that I read line 2 left to right? Always right to left then left to right on even rows?

Just wanted to check to make sure.

thanks for any help!

The links are to your harddrive so didn’t bring up the chart…

But generally for flat knitting, you read the odd rows (1, 3, 5, etc) right to left, the even rows from right to left. The chart is a picture of how the sts look from the RS of your knitting.

How you read the chart depends:
on whether it is flat knitting,
or in the round,

and also whether
all lines are included,
or only every other line

AND assuming whoever created the chart followed standard practice.

Oh, didn’t realize the link was to my harddrive. That’s because I opened the pdf file I guess. I don’t know how to cut & copy when I"m in a pdf file, I tried it but it wouldn’t work.

If you want to open it yourself and take a look… it’s a really super pattern. Here is the link http://knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/hair_accessories.php

It’s the very first pattern on the upper left, Andean Headband.

It is knit in the round. She just has this little sketch of the pattern without the usual numbers. If you have time to check it out, she does say do the 19 rounds and there are only 17. Guess she made a mistake there.

I think the “19” is a typo. There are 17 lines in the chart and it is balanced.

Since it is knit in the round all lines on the chart will be read right to left.

Thanks MMario! Well I probably asked the ? too soon because as I started to do it I figured out you have to do right to left to maintain the look. duh Well, something new learned today, that’s always good. thanks again!

Victoise - I was able to access the pattern by just using the end of your link, which is to the actual .pdf pattern.

But it is as MMario states and you figured out - since it’s in the round, every row is a RS row so all rows are read right to left.

thanks Krazy4Kats! that’s a pretty cat btw, is it yours?

The headband is coming along nicely and I’m happy to be learning this… :cheering:

Yes, that’s the youngest of “my boys”, Buttons. He looks cute, but can be a real bratsky, LOL.

I saved your headband pattern - Wisconsin winter is coming too quickly this year and my ears will need something to keep them warm!
